JAIPUR: In a case of grave medical negligence, a 10-year-old boy suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) was administered blood of two different groups in three days at a govt-run childcare specialty in Jaipur.

The boy, who is admitted to the ICU of JK Lon Hospital and has a blood type of O+, was administered AB+ blood type on Dec 5. Two days later, when he became critical and a second transfusion was needed, he was administered the correct blood type, O+. The hospital suspects that samples sent to blood bank may have been swapped with those of another patient. The hospital administration is now investigating the incident.

"We are closely monitoring the health of the patient who received blood of two different blood groups. There is no evidence of blood reaction. The transfusion has not deteriorated his medical condition," Dr Kailash Meena, medical superintendent of the hospital, told TOI. The boy remains critical and on ventilator support.
