7 held for IPL betting; phones, cash among other items seized

JAIPUR: City police arrested seven persons on Saturday for betting on the ongoing IPL matches. They were caught with laptops, mobile phones, cash as well as a register which maintained the accounts running into lakhs.


The accused were arrested from Jaisinghpura road in the city and have been identified as Jatin Shah (45), Rahul

(29), Vinod Sindhi (39), Hemant Sindhi (37), Harish Kumar (35), Chandu Kumar (37) and Raj Kumar (45). “Police has been extra vigilant due to increasing betting cases during the IPL matches. On a tip-off we got to know about these seven betting on the IPL match on Friday and a team arrested them with various items that they were using to keep in touch with people who had placed their money on the matches,” said a police official.

Crime Branch constituted a team of officials to arrest the seven accused comprising of Mahipal Singh, Manendra Singh, Purshottam and others.

The seven arrested had 33 mobile phones, three laptops as well as thee internet dongles, a television set and cash amounting to Rs 19,240 amongst other things seized from them. The accused also had one register in which they maintained records of the bets which ran into lakhs of rupees. Two cars were also seized by the police that were being used by them. All of them have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) amongst others.
