Ambedkar row: BJP MLA takes U-turn

ALWAR

: BJP legislator from

Bharatpur Vijay Bansal

has sparked a fresh controversy over his statement that Babasaheb B R Ambedkar has been credited as the father of Indian constitution due to electoral politics.

Incidentally, his comment came while delivering his keynote address during a function celebrating Ambedkar Jayanti in a private school in Bharatpur on Saturday.

“Ambedkar had not drafted the constitution alone. The head of constitution drafting committee was Dr Rajendra Prasad and Ambedkar was made the head after Prasad became President,” said Bansal. He also said that Ambedkar was made the head for vote bank politics.

A day after on Saturday, the MLA took a ‘U’ turn and blamed media for showing his twisted statement. “I told that Babasaheb became the head of constitution drafting committee due to his academic excellence. I didn’t say anything which is disrespectful for the Babasaheb.”

Sensing controversy gaining heat, BJP spokesperson and Jaipur’s mayor Ashok Lahoti distanced party from Bansal’s statement.

He said, “Party and his workers have nothing to do with the MLA’s statement. Our party believes that Babasaheb Ambedkar was the father of Indian constitution and great visionary. The statement given by the MLA to be seen in his personal capacity,” said Lahoti.
