As Kota C-Section crisis deepens, principal secretary, top officials & experts rush to Kota
Jaipur: Kota’s post-caesarean medical crisis deepened after a fourth woman died from severe complications Monday, triggering an urgent late-night visit by Principal Secretary, Medical Education, Gayatri Rathore. She reached Kota Monday night with Commissioner, Food Safety and Drug Control, Dr T Shubhamangala, as alarm grew over several other women still in critical condition.
Earlier, a specialised team from SMS Medical College reached Kota to assess the worsening situation and assist local doctors treating the affected patients. The team reviewed the care being provided to women who developed serious complications after undergoing C-section procedures. Officials said the major concerns include abnormal kidney function, kidney failure and other severe postoperative conditions.
Some more women remain under close medical supervision for kidney-related complications and associated health problems. The SMS Medical College experts examined treatment protocols and are helping local doctors in efforts to stabilise the patients.
Medical Education Commissioner Babu Lal Goyal said the inquiry into the deaths is continuing. He said the SMS Medical College team was sent both to support treatment of the affected women and to investigate the circumstances behind the complications and fatalities.
The medical education department’s probe is focusing on two key areas. One is the operation theatre where the women underwent C-sections, specifically whether proper sterilisation protocols were followed. The second is the quality of drugs administered during the surgeries. A senior medical education department official said reports on both aspects are awaited.
With four deaths confirmed and six women still battling life-threatening complications, the Kota case has become a major public health concern, placing hospital procedures, infection control standards and drug quality under intense scrutiny.
