BJP to elect leader of oppn today

Jaipur: The state BJP will hold its first legislative committee meeting on Sunday, during which the leader of opposition in the Rajasthan assembly will be elected.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at 12:30pm at the state party headquarters on Sunday. With the appointment of former chief minister Vasundhara Raje as the party’s vice president, speculations are rife that she might not take up the responsibility as the leader of opposition. It is believed that she would now play a larger part at the national level while the state might witness somebody else being handed over the responsibility of the party’s legislative committee.

Among the names which are considered to be the top contenders for the post are Rajendra Rathore and outgoing speaker Kailesh Meghwal. However, a section of the party believes that Raje, keen to continue being part of the state politics, is not completely out of the race.

The meeting will be held in the presence of Arun Jaitley, Prakash Javadekar, national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi and party incharge Avinash Rai Khanna.
