Candidates playing caste card to influence voters

JAIPUR: The focus of student union polls of Rajasthan University (

RU

) has shifted over to the districts. Both NSUI and ABVP candidates of the Rajasthan University campaigned in outskirts of Jaipur which has a sizeable students in far-off areas like

Dausa

and other places. The chunk of students lives in Kalawar, Jagatpura, Dausa and Bhankrota. Here candidates are knocking the doors of students since Saturday morning. The caste card is also being played by them as these leaders accompanying with caste leaders to influence the voters of their caste.

Deepak Meena, presidential candidate of NSUI traveling from one area to another ensuring that at least he should reach out to 10,000 students. “This is the only option left for us to reach out to the masses. Students living in different areas expected us and we are not bothering the local residents,” said Meena.

says that they are contacting the students over the phone and social media for a vote. The rebels of both have dampened the winning prospects of both parties. Parties have also served notices to its members for working against their party candidates. Both the parties’ students have shot a letter to the party office bearers talking about the wrong selection of candidates.

ABVP rebel Pawan Yadav who has accused the party of ignoring the grassroots worker to fix a parachuted candidate was detained by the police in the evening while he was campaigning door to door at Murlipura. He accused the ABVP of the arrest. Till the last report came he was at the Murlipura police station

‘Jat’ written on donkeys: Mild tension prevailed in the university campus after two donkeys were spotted with a name ‘Jat’ labelled on them on Saturday. The incident sparked outrage by the Jat community students who termed the incident a deliberate move to provoke them. The incident came to light when students saw two donkeys grazing outside the Bhaha hostel. Soon the news spread like a wild fire though social media. “This incident to be seen in the light of polls as some elements are trying to create a rift between communities to take the advantage in the polls,” said Ravi Palsania, student leader.
