High-tech sirens tested in Jaisalmer to strengthen India–Pakistan border security

JAISALMER: To strengthen security arrangements near the India–Pakistan border, a high-tech siren system was tested again in Jaisalmer on Friday following Operation Sindoor.

The testing began at 11 am and continued for about five minutes, with siren sounds echoing across the city.

The system has been developed using advanced technology. Each siren remains online at all times, and in case of an emergency, all 11 sirens across the city can be activated simultaneously with a single click.




After Operation Sindoor, the administration installed digital siren systems at 11 key locations to enhance security and disaster management. These sirens can be operated through a dedicated mobile app. The system is based on GSM technology and can be activated remotely from a control room using SIM connectivity.

Municipal Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha said such testing ensures the system functions properly when required and delivers timely alerts to the public. He added that the council’s electrical wing has fully modernised the system, ensuring all sirens remain continuously online and can be triggered instantly during emergencies.

Key and high-traffic locations across the city were selected to ensure maximum sound coverage, allowing citizens to respond quickly in emergency situations. The project has been developed at a cost of ₹14.50 lakh using state-of-the-art technology.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said the main objective of the testing is to alert citizens in the shortest possible time during incidents such as fires, natural disasters, or other emergencies. He clarified that Friday’s test was a routine technical drill and there was no need for public panic.

Meanwhile, as the sirens sounded at 11 am, residents across the city became alert, and the development quickly gained attention on social media. During the five-minute test, the entire city resonated with the siren sounds.

The high-tech system is part of the security strategy under Operation Sindoor, aimed at strengthening rapid alert mechanisms between civilians and security forces in border areas near India and Pakistan.

The testing has reinforced emergency preparedness and has become an important component of modern security planning. Security forces can now respond swiftly while ensuring citizens are alerted in minimal time.

Citizens appreciated the initiative, calling it a modern safety measure. The administration also urged the public to avoid panic and refrain from spreading rumours during such drills.
