JAIPUR: Curtains may soon fall on the long-pending controversy over the sub-inspector (SI) recruitment exam-2021 as the state home department has proposed to the CMO to cancel the selection process. A final decision on the proposal sent on Dec 10 is expected during a cabinet meeting scheduled for next week.

The home department's proposal, widely shared on social media, indicates that the cabinet sub-committee, headed by parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel, concurs with the recommendation of the SIT, led by ADG VK Singh, to nullify the examination. Both RPSC and the DGP have supported the recommendation, as noted in the proposal.

On Thursday, cabinet minister Patel indicated forthcoming govt decisions regarding the SI exam-2021, one state one election, delimitation and district reorganisation. "Decisions on all these are under consideration in the respective committees. Decisions will be made soon by the govt," Patel said.

The SIT's recommendations include cancelling the SI exam-2021, initiating a fresh recruitment process, conducting a re-examination for previous participants with a three-month preparation period, and providing age relaxation for trainee SIs who might not qualify in the re-examination.

The advocate general also provided legal counsel on Sept 14, supporting the examination’s cancellation, as mentioned in the home department's communication.

“Therefore, it is recommended to cancel the Sub-Inspector Police/Platoon Commander Recruitment Examination, 2021," states the home department's letter. "Considering all the facts presented before the cabinet sub-committee, especially the opinion of the AG, the recruitment examination, which has been deemed flawed from the beginning due to the use of unfair means for recruiting sub-inspectors and selecting unqualified candidates, does not fulfil the Rajasthan Police's goal of instilling ‘trust in the public and fear among criminals’,” the home department's letter stated.

“The citizens and the state govt expect that only personnel with a transparent and clean image should be selected for a corruption-free administration, which is not being realised in the current recruitment process,” it noted.

The letter mentions the cabinet sub-committee expects that the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) will organise the recruitment examination again with full transparency, including all the applicants who participated in the SI exam-2021.

Earlier, despite identifying numerous examination irregularities, including dummy candidates and paper leaks, minister Patel maintained that the sub-committee's report did not explicitly recommend cancellation. In Nov, HC asked state govt to submit status report on SI exam-2021 in Jan. SOG has arrested over 50 trainee SIs. The HC has granted bail to 26 trainee SIs in two separate cases.
