Jaipur bizman gets Rs 5cr extortion call from ‘Rohit Godara’
Jaipur: A businessman in Jaipur has allegedly received an extortion call of Rs 5 crore and death threat from a person posing as gangster Rohit Godara on May 18.
A few days after the threat call, the businessman Wednesday lodged a case, and police initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to the FIR, the victim’s family resides in Jaipur. “It is stated that on May 18, between 3pm and 3.30pm, a call was received from an international number. During the conversation, the caller identified himself as gangster Rohit Godara and claimed that he urgently needed Rs 5 crore,” said a police officer Thursday while quoting the complaint.
The accused allegedly threatened the family members, saying, “Arrange the money by the day after tomorrow, otherwise I will kill you,” police added.
“The call was received by a child from the family, who got frightened after hearing the threats and immediately switched off the phone. Soon after, the accused allegedly sent threatening messages claiming that switching off the phone would not help and warned that if the money was not paid, the family’s shop and property would be destroyed,” the officer added.
The repeated threats reportedly terrified the child, who later left the house out of fear. Following the incident, the child’s father approached Shyam Nagar police station and lodged a formal complaint. “We have registered an FIR and have initiated a probe into the matter,” said Dalbeer Singh Faujdar, circle inspector, Shyam Nagar.
Police officials said the call originated from a foreign number and the matter is being treated seriously. “Technical analysis of the call records, mobile number location and messages is currently underway,” he added.
Investigators are also trying to ascertain whether the threats were genuinely linked to an organised criminal gang or whether someone used the gangster’s name to intimidate and extort money from the businessman.
