Jaipur's Divyanshi Jain wins gold medal in Western India Slam Squash Championship

JAIPUR: Talented Divyanshi Jain of Jaipur won the gold medal in the Under-13 girls’ category at the 79th Western India Slam Squash Championship held recently in Mumbai.

Divyanshi, who is just 11 years and 4 months old, competed in the U-13 section for the first time. She stunned the country’s number one player in the same age group, Anika Kalanki of Madhya Pradesh, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6 in the final and clinched the gold medal.

Earlier, Divyanshi defeated Ashi Shah of Mumbai 6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 in the semi-finals to make it to the final.

Divyanshi is taking coaching from former international player Surabhi Mishra at the Rajasthan Squash Academy located at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Surabhi said that another player of the academy, Dhairya Gogia, claimed the silver medal in the U-13 boys’ category, while Gaurav Ajmera of the academy managed to grab the silver medal in the U-9 girls’ section.

In the U-13 boys summit clash, Delhi’s Abhyudaya Arora downed Dhairya 11-7, 11-7, 11-8, while in the final of U-19 girls’ group, Gauravi lost to Mumbai’s Ayansh Kolte in a tough five-set encounter. Ayansh won the match 11-7, 10-12, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9.
