Kotputli police bust international cyber fraud gang
Alwar: Kotputli police busted an international cyber fraud gang operating under the pretext of sending people abroad and arrested one accused Monday. Police said the gang carried out cyber fraud through Chinese cyber gang call centres in Cambodia.Aimed at curbing rising cases of cyber fraud in Kotputli-Behror district, the police arrested an accused who was sending people abroad on the pretext of jobs in Cambodia. Kotputli-Behror Superintendent of Police Devendra Kumar told the media that they had arrested Suresh Sain, 43, a resident of Rampur Bansur, in the case.
The SP told the media that Chinese cyber gang was targeting Indian citizens from Cambodia through digital arrest, fake websites and investment fraud. Police said the accused used Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram advertisements to create fake trading apps and websites resembling genuine apps in the name of share market. According to police, gang members from fake call centres based in Cambodia posed as officers from CBI, police, ED or customs departement and defrauded Indians by threatening them with digital arrest. The officer said the gang had sent hundreds of youths to Cambodia, including more than 50 from Bansur area alone. So far, 15 suspects have been interrogated and 25 arrested. The identification process of youths sent abroad is on, and police said they are investigating the international network and financial transactions. Devendra Kumar said the district had been continuously receiving complaints of online fraud, fake calls, OTP fraud, fraud through social media, misuse of bank accounts and cheating people through digital means. Police said a special campaign under 'Operation Cyber' was launched, with raids conducted in different police station areas of the district, and about 50 people arrested, including suspects and accused involved in cyber fraud. Police said that during the campaign, along with technical evidence, digital trails are being examined. Mobile phones, SIM cards, bank accounts and other electronic devices used in fraud are being seized and investigated.
