NEW DELHI: Efforts to rescue a three-year-old girl trapped in a borewell in Kotputli, Rajasthan, have faced significant challenges due to intermittent rainfall since Thursday night.

The rain has rendered the surrounding soil slippery, complicating crucial operations such as welding and the lowering of the casing pipe.
Officials reported that the operation reached a critical phase on Thursday night when a B-plan was implemented, involving the lowering of a casing pipe into a hole adjacent to the borewell.

A National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) official stated that they are persevering despite the adverse conditions.

"We are encountering difficulties with welding due to the rain. Nevertheless, we are making every effort. We have dug down to the required depth, and the casing pipe is being lowered to stabilise the soil and ensure the safety of rescuers. Once this is completed, tunnel excavation will commence," the official explained.

The rescue operation involves teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the local administration. The child fell into the borewell on her father’s agricultural land on 23rd December while playing.

On Tuesday, NDRF personnel successfully pulled the girl up by 30 feet using clips.

Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Brajesh Chaudhary emphasised that the rescue team's top priority is to save the child’s life.

Earlier, additional district magistrate (ADM) OP Saran said, "The girl was originally 150 feet below. Using clips, we have managed to bring her up by 30 feet. Oxygen is being continuously supplied to her, and efforts to rescue her by boring nearby are ongoing."

Cameras have been installed to monitor the situation, and all rescue teams are working tirelessly to expedite the operation.

Since the incident, district administration teams and medical personnel have been on-site, ensuring safety protocols are adhered to. Local authorities have cordoned off the area to allow the rescue operation to proceed without disruption.
