JAIPUR: The revival of the southwest monsoon on Monday brought moderate to heavy rainfall at many places in the state. Bhusawar in Bharatpur and Bandikui in Dausa received a rainfall of 91mm which was highest in the state. The Met office said that heavy rainfall is likely at Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota divisions.
Attributing the revival of the southwest monsoon to the active upper air cyclonic circulation, the Met office said, similar conditions will continue in the state in the next couple of days.
People in Jaipur experienced heavy downpours in the evening. Many places including Jagatpura, Tonk Phatak, Lal Kothi, Mansarover, Jhotwara, Murlipura, Vidhyadhar Nagar and Vishwakarma witnessed moderate to heavy showers. Rainfall in the evening gave a troublesome time to the commuters especially those returning home from offices. Several parts of the city were waterlogged, leading to chaotic traffic snarl. A rainfall of 40.4 mm was recorded in Jaipur till 5.30 pm on Monday. In the morning a minimum temperature of 26.4° Celsius was recorded and it was followed by a maximum temperature of 34.2° Celsius.
Met office said monsoon rainfall has been fruitful as it has recharged local rivers and dams across the state. Bisalpur Dam, which fulfills drinking water needs of Ajmer, Tonk and Jaipur, has also seen continuous elevation in its water level.
“The water level at the dam has now reached 310.16 metre against the full capacity of 315.5 metre. Hopefully, more rainfall in its catchment area will further increase the water level in this season,” said Manish Bansal, executive engineer at the dam.
On the other hand life was back to normal in Tonk district where heavy rainfall was witnessed on Friday and Saturday. Water receded from many areas in Tonk district including Todaraisingh, Peeplu and Malpura where heavy rainfall was witnessed.
Met office in its forecast said on July 9 and 10, many places in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner divisions are likely to get heavy rainfall.
