State farmers vow support to Punjab, Haryana counterparts
Jaipur: In support of farmers in Haryana and Punjab, hundreds of tractors have been positioned in villages, towns, and streets of Rajasthan under the leadership of national president of Kisan Mahapanchayat Rampal Jat. Farmers of Baran, Bundi, Kota, Ajmer, Tonk, Dausa and other districts will take out a tractor march in various parts of the state if their demand to bring a law to guarantee purchase of agricultural produce at minimum support price (MSP) is not met, said Jat.On Monday, a delegation of farmers of Arai tehsil in Ajmer met district collector Bharti Dixit and submitted a memorandum demanding that Arai tehsil be declared a disaster-prone area. “We also demand that farmers of Arai tehsil be paid the claims on premiums paid under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. In addition, we want the state government to pass a law to guarantee purchase of agricultural produce at MSP. We will have another round of meetings with the state government on these issues,” said Jat.Jat demanded that the state government make public the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh govts on the Integrated ERCP-PKC (Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal) link canal project. “Govt should make the MOU public to end doubts on the project,” he said. “Even the elected MLAs were not made available a copy of the MOU, which hints at the state government's attempt to hide something from the public,” said Jat.Governments of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh signed an MoU with the Union jal shakti ministry on the Integrated ERCP-PKC link canal project to provide water for drinking and irrigation to a total of 26 districts, including 13 from the state, in New Delhi on Sunday.
