Waterlogging compounds civic woes

Jaipur: Overnight heavy rain followed by drizzle on Saturday caused waterlogging and traffic jams on many roads in the city such as Chandi ki Taksal, Chandpole, parts of JLN Marg, Barkat Nagar and Kisan Marg.

The silt left on the roads after the civic bodies cleaned the drains once again went back into the drains and chocked them. The road near Hanuman Temple in Chandi ki Taksal witnessed vehicles and people wading through ankle-deep water. "On Friday too it was the same. The drains here have not been properly cleaned by the civic body, this is the reason that roads are submerged in water," said BK Sharma a local resident.

In Karim Manzil area near Ajmeri Gate, the shops remained closed till 11 am as shopkeepers waited for the water to recede.

Waterlogging and traffic snarls were reported in areas near Kisan Marg, near Gopalpura Bypass, Sachivalya Colony and Mahesh Nagar Phatak. The roads that have been dug by the civic body in JP Nagar, Janak Puri and Dev Nagar added to people's woes.

"Dug up roads have turned slippery, despite accidents on these roads the civic body has not made any efforts to repair them. The roads are so slippery that there is always a fear of a biker losing his balance," said Darbar Singh, a resident of JP Colony.

In areas near Kishanpole Bazar and Sanjay Nagar Market, the potholes were filled with rainwater are risking the lives of commuters. "There are no signboards to alert the people about these potholes. Some unaware person can fall because of these potholes, this has also exposed the quality of pre-monsoon repair work," said Naresh Lalwani, a shopkeeper in the area.

According to the Met department partly cloudy sky and thunderstorm with rain is likely to occur in next 24 hours in the city.

The minimum and maximum temperature is likely to hover around at 33 degrees Celsius. Jaipur recorded maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius on Friday, bringing some respite from sweltering heat in the city.
