Why BJP not implementing women’s quota now, asks Pilot

Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Tuesday said that the Modi government is paying only lip service to women’s reservation in Parliament. He said 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies was a long-standing demand of the people.The Congress leader, while speaking to media, said the bill should have been passed long ago and the proposed bill is effective only in 2029 elections. He asked why the provisions of the bill are not implemented with immediate effect.“If the intentions of the government were right, it should have taken all parties into confidence and executed right away. It seems the intention and action not matching. A special session of Parliament was called and almost all parties agreed on the bill, then what is the problem in postponing its execution?” he asked.

Day before Parliament special session, Congress demands passage of Women's Reservation Bill

CWC calls for passage of Women's Reservation Bill during Parliament's special session

The Congress party has demanded the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill during the upcoming special session of Parliament. The party alleges that important legislation is being rushed through without proper scrutiny and discussion. The Congress Working Committee also expressed concerns about the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment etc) Bill, stating that it would compromise the independence of the Election Commission. The committee thanked Sonia Gandhi for identifying important issues for debate during the special session and called for the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill.

First bill to be introduced in new Parliament building: 'Women's reservation bill in Lok Sabha'
