JAMSHEDPUR: Three persons including two babies were crushed to death under the wheels of a goods train near a rail station in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Friday, police said.

The victims, a man and two toddlers aged two and three years old, were attempting to cross the railway tracks in the early morning hours near Govindpur Halt station, situated on the periphery of Jamshedpur city, when the accident occurred.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased were likely related and belonged to the same family.
"It appears they were members of the same family," stated Prakash Kumar, the Officer-in-Charge of Govindpur police station. He added that the victims were possibly inhabitants of the Potka block in East Singhbhum District, and efforts are underway to ascertain their identities.

The Govindpur Halt railway station falls under the jurisdiction of the South Eastern Railway's Chakradharpur division.

Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were transported to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for post-mortem examination.
