Jamshedpur: In the ongoing poll season, when political leaders of all parties are doing their best to connect with the electorates, state health and disaster management minister Banna Gupta hopped from one 'akhara' (gymnasium) to another to take part in the immersion rally of Ram Navami on Thursday.
The Congress leader said, “We should all follow the footsteps of Lord Ram, his way of life and sacrifices can help us to do better. Ram is eternal and infinite."
Gupta also participated in mock fights with youths at various 'akharas'. On the occasion of Ram Navami, such mock fights are organised to showcase strength and valour.
During the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya in Jan this year, Gupta actively took part in mega rallies here in the state.
Gupta is one of the probables for the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat, according to party sources. However, Congress is yet to open its cards for this high-profile seat in state capital which Sanjay Seth of BJP won in 2019 defeating Congress's Subodh Kant Sahay.
BJP's Jamshedpur mahanagar chief Sudhansu Ojha on Friday said, “If the party has understood its mistake and trying to embrace Ram, then the saffron party welcomes the move. But if it is just a poll gimmick, they should know that the electorate can't be fooled as times have changed."
He said the recent move by Gupta is more of a poll gimmick as he wants to keep his mathematics right and trying to woo majority Hindu voters.
