JAMSHEDPUR: A 32-year-old worker, identified as Khagen Mahato, collapsed while working at a private sugar mill in Karnataka on Monday. The employer transported the body of the deceased to his native village at Ambhula in Chakulia block in East Singhbhum on Wednesday. The family members and the local public representatives, however, were enraged at the company management for transporting the corpse without conducting an autopsy.

“Neither the family members were informed about the cause of death, nor there's any postmortem report,” claimed Mohan Soren, mukhia of the Ambhula village.

Further, he said that the company management did not communicate to the bereaved family about the monetary compensation or if the kin of the deceased will get a job. The villagers refused to receive the body, and staged protest for over two hours demanding intervention of the police.

Chakulia police station in-charge, Santan Kumar Tiwari said that police is looking into the matter. “The deceased was taken to the doctor but his life couldn't be saved. He died of cardiac arrest,” said the police officer citing details gathered in the preliminary investigation.

Further, he said that there's no case lodged by the victim's family so far in connection with the incident. The body was later received by the bereaved family following persuasion by the police.
