Couple beats thief to death in Adityapur

JAMSHEDPUR: A 37-year-old burglar was thrashed to death by a couple at Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district early on Saturday morning. Police said the incident happened at about 2 am in the Shivnarayanpur locality under the Adityapur police station and the thief is from the same locality. He was attempting to steal the wheels of a parked goods tempo.


The vehicle owner, Putru Tudu, who is also a resident of the same locality, was awakened by the footsteps of the thief. Tudu then caught Gope while he was removing the wheel from the vehicle. In a fit of rage, he started beating him up with a wooden stick. Tudu's wife also woke up and rushed out. She also joined her husband in beating up the thief, who succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

Police reached the place after six hours following an alert. They said the couple has been arrested and the body of the deceased sent to the Seraikela sadar hospital for postmortem.
