Drive against adulterated food kicks off in Steel City
Warning the sweet sellers not to indulge in adulteration, the food safety official said that guilty sellers will face action under relevant sections of Safety and Standards Act of 2006.
He asked restaurant and eatery owners to also put expiry date information on the display trays of the food items. It is mandatory for the shopkeepers to follow the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines, the official said.
In adjoining Seraikela, food safety official, Aditi Singh, inspected about a dozen sweet shops in Adityapur, Gamharia, Seraikela between Saturday and Tuesday.
The official collected samples of different sweets and snacks for laboratory test. Further, the official asked the shopkeepers not to use the non-edible colours in the sweets. During her inspection, she found Kamdhenu colour sachet in some of the shops. The Kamdhenu sachets are used for colouring clothes.
Will penalise officials, traders if safety norms flouted: CM
In response to the Attibele firecracker incident that resulted in 14 deaths, the government of Bengaluru has decided to make traders renew their licenses annually instead of every five years. They have also vowed to take strict action against firecracker shops and godowns that do not comply with safety regulations. The chief minister has ordered the fire department to inspect all firecracker godowns and shut down those that do not meet safety specifications. The government is also reviewing all existing licenses and will cancel any that have been issued in violation of rules.
EOU raids yield food corpn official's assets worth lakhs
The Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar police conducted raids on the premises of Shishir Kumar Verma, an assistant manager-cum-deputy general manager of Bihar State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. The raids yielded cash, gold jewelry, investment papers, a car, and several air tickets. The officials discovered that Verma earned over Rs 45 lakh in income disproportionate to his known sources of income. The raids were conducted after obtaining search warrants from the special vigilance court. Further action will be taken based on the seized documents.
Coal theft incident in active mine in West Bengal shocks officials, sparks safety measures
Three villagers died while stealing coal from an active government mine in Ranigunj, India. The incident has shocked coal officials, as previous deaths occurred in abandoned mines. The coal layer collapsed, trapping the villagers inside the shaft near where a contractor was cutting coal. The contractor has been show-caused and an explanation is being sought. The incident prompted the deployment of guards and CISF officers at the mine. Opposition parties had previously alerted authorities about the coal theft. The incident highlights the dangers of illegal mining and the need for increased security measures.
