Households littering roads under lens: JNAC

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) will identify the households that are littering the roadside with domestic garbage and impose a penalty on them.The deputy administrator of the JNAC, Piyush Sinha, who is also the SDO of Dhalbhum, on Saturday directed the JNAC officials to make a list of the households which are not disposing off garbage through door-to-door collection vehicle. Such households will face penalty under the Jharkhand Municipality Act, Sinha said.

The JNAC has found that some residential flat residents on Uliyan main road in Kadma and Jojobera in Telco area were not handing over waste to the garbage collection vehicles, and dumping it in drains and on roadside.Further, the deputy administrator has asked the cleaning supervisors to ensure that garbage bins are placed near households for easy accessibility. He asked special officers Mukesh Kumar and Ajit Kumar to engage the self-help groups to generate awareness among the residents about the benefits of door-to-door collection.“Every house must dump the waste in the bin or drop it in the waste collection vehicle,” Sinha said. With 80 tippers, the JNAC collects 170 tonne of garbage from over 40,000 households daily, from the non Tata Steel command area.

NEERI team collects samples for new garbage plant project

The National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) team has started collecting samples from the Dadumajra dump site for a new garbage processing plant project. The team will submit details to the central government's ministry of environment, forest and climate change. The samples will be tested according to NEERI's specifications, and a detailed report will be submitted for environmental clearances. The project's location near a residential area makes these tests crucial. NEERI was hired by the civic body authority for the environment impact assessment (EIA) of the project.

Garbage collectors attacked, vehicle damaged in Pkl

A team of contractual door-to-door garbage collectors in Panchkula was attacked by three individuals, who vandalized their vans and threatened them against working in the area. The accused were former employees of the municipal corporation and had previously threatened the staff. A case has been registered against them. In another news, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation plans to install GPS systems in e-rickshaws to improve the efficiency of garbage collection. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation cleared 176 tonnes of garbage from the Race Course Ground after the Janmashtami fair.
