JAMSHEDPUR: Ahead of monsoon, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has taken up drain cleaning work on a large scale. The civic body of the industrial town has, for the first time, issued mobile phone numbers for residents to approach officials concerned with request for cleaning drains, if any, in their localities.
JNAC special officer Sanjay Kumar said mobile numbers of sanitation inspectors P Kujur (9835951319), Shantanu Ghosh (9031790916) and city manager Christina Kachap (7677526575) have been issued for residents.
Kumar said adequate number of vehicles (tippers) have been provided to the sanitation team to dispose of garbage. Further, the private agencies tasked with cleaning drains have been asked to deploy adequate number of workers to ensure there's no shortage of the hands in lifting and disposing of trash.
The agencies have been asked to examine the condition of drains following the removal of sludge and take up repairing work accordingly. After that, bleaching powder will be sprinkled and fogging will be done at the drains.
Notably, the civic body has identified more than 150 drains, including 34 big drains, and, 60 moderate drains for cleaning by the end of June.
"The drain cleaning work was started in the first week of June but it got the necessary push up following the review of the work done by the SO on Thursday last week," said Shantanu Ghosh.
Further, the notified area has identified about dozen residential areas that have a perennial problem of waterlogging due to clogged drains and these areas will receive a focused approach in the ongoing drive.
Notably, Bage Basti, Nirmalnagar, Kusumnagar in Kadma, Bagunnagar, Gwalabasti, Babudih in Baridih, Shivbagan area, Subhash ashram, Devnagar, in Sakchi, Jojobera, Premnagar, East Plant Basti in Jemco (Telco), Mathurabagan, Tuiladungri in Cable town (Golmuri), among other, are low-lying residential areas that have a history of overflowing drains causing inundation during rain.
Besides, the areas which have a regular complain of overflowing drains when it rains like Circuit House petrol pump area in Bistupur, Gurudwara Basti, Refugee Colony in Sakchi, Anilsurpath, Uliyan Main Road in Kadma, Aashiyana residential flats complex area in Sonari, among others, which fall in the command limits of Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TS UISL), will be cleaned by the private utility enterprise.
