No teacher available, JSR college stops admission in 4 subjects
The Kolhan University itself has one head in the postgraduate mathematics department with two teaching assistants working on an ad hoc basis. Only Karim City College, another affiliated college of Kolhan University, and Graduate School College for Women, another constituent college in Jamshedpur offer maths in postgraduate level.
The lack of subject professors means that students aspiring for maths are opting for private colleges with more fees."Constituent colleges are affordable but with a college like Jamshedpur Co-operative College not offering courses in major subjects, a good number of students are forced to go to private universities," said Anubhav Kumar, an economics honours student of Jamshedpur Co-operative College.
Registrar of Kolhan University, Rajendra Bharti, said that they are trying to fill the gap by recruiting teachers on contractual basis. A request has already been sent to Raj Bhavan regarding the same, he added.
