In her FIR, the wife said she was married to the officer, a resident of a Ranchi locality, on November 20, 2017. During their marriage, her family gave Rs 51 lakh in cash as dowry and recently gave Rs 9.5 lakh after he demanded the money to pay for his alleged transfer, but he is still torturing her for more cash in dowry, she said, stressing that when she refused to contact her parents to get more cash, the officer repeatedly assaulted her.

The woman also said she was away with her parents at their Patna home but had to rush back with her brother to Hazaribag on April 18, 2022, after getting information that her husband was inside their flat with another woman.

When they reached the house, the door was found locked from the inside and nobody answered the to calls and knocks for opening the door. The woman then complained the matter with the local police station after which a team came and broke down the door.

They found the police officer and a woman inside, she claimed but said she did not file a complaint after her husband apologised with a promise not to repeat such misconduct.

However, on June 20 this year, the officer started demanding more money in dowry so that he can pay for his transfer, but the woman said she refused to talk to her parents about the amount as her husband has taken Rs 9.5 lakh for the same reason some time ago. The officer then started to torture her after which she filed the FIR on Saturday, the woman said.

Meanwhile, the accused said he was unaware of the FIR filed by his wife as he has not yet received a copy, so far. When he was confronted by journalists on Saturday, the officer said the charges made by his wife were false and claimed that it was he who filed an FIR against the family members of his wife in 2022 but declined to share details of the case.
