Rajasthan CID detains Jaisalmer youth for espionage; accused of passing Army secrets to Pakistan
JAISALMER: Hours before the Republic Day celebrations, early Monday morning, Rajasthan's CID Intelligence agency detained a Pakistani spy on charges of espionage for Pakistan in a major operation in the Sankra police station area of Jaisalmer.
The detained youth, around 28 years old, is accused of sending confidential and strategic information related to the Indian Army to Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, for monetary gains since 2024. He is also accused of sending information, videos and photos related to Operation Sindoor to ISI across the border.
The suspected spy is being brought to the Central Joint Interrogation Center in Jaipur for further intensive investigation, where security and intelligence agencies are expected to interrogate him. Officials said this is the first accused detained on espionage charges in Jaisalmer this year; last year, 5 Pakistani spies were arrested from Jaisalmer.
Rajasthan CID Intelligence Agency Inspector General Vishnukant said the CID Intelligence Rajasthan team was continuously monitoring espionage activities in the state. He said the agency received information that Jabbara Ram, son of Bhanna Ram Meghwal, aged 28, from Nedan village in the Sankra police station area of Jaisalmer district, was in contact with a Pakistani intelligence agency across the border and was sending confidential and strategic information to ISI. In return, he was allegedly receiving substantial sums of money.
A preliminary investigation found he was in continuous contact with Pakistani intelligence agency personnel through social media and was repeatedly sending videos linked to the country's strategic information to ISI handlers based in Pakistan. He is being taken to Jaipur for further interrogation.
Other official sources said that during questioning, the detained suspect was found to have knowledge of important military installations and army movements. They said he was in contact with Pakistani handlers during Operation Sindoor and was sharing information about army movements.
Officials said he was receiving money in his account through Pakistan's local agents, and that interrogation by various intelligence agencies and mobile technical investigation indicated he was providing strategic army information to ISI in exchange for money. He remains under interrogation.
