Seized bike stolen from police station; theft exposed when owner arrives to take it back
JAISALMER: A bizarre theft case has come to light in Barmer. Showing no fear of the police, unidentified thieves daringly stole a seized motorcycle from inside the Sadar Police Station.
When the bike owner reached the police station to reclaim his vehicle, the police were shocked to find it missing. CCTV footage is now being examined.
In connection with the incident, an FIR was registered at Kotwali Police Station on April 26 regarding the theft of the bike from Sadar Police Station. The case was filed based on a report by ASI Shriram of Sadar Police Station.
On Tuesday, the bike owner submitted a memorandum to the Barmer SP, requesting recovery of his vehicle. Police are currently searching for the accused.
This incident highlights how emboldened criminals have become in Barmer district, to the extent that even a police station is no longer secure. The matter came to light when the actual owner, carrying a court order, arrived at the police station to retrieve his bike. Upon discovering it missing, the police were left stunned and immediately began scanning CCTV footage.
A case has now been registered.
Kotwali SHO Manoj Kumar stated that on April 19, two youth were arrested near KI Hotel for riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol. The bike was seized under the Motor Vehicles Act and kept at Sadar Police Station.
The accused were presented in SDM Court the next day (April 20) and were granted bail. Later, as per the order of the Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate No. 1, the bike owner went to reclaim his vehicle.
Following the court’s order, Constable Ratan Singh was sent to Sadar Police Station to bring the bike, but it was not found there. CCTV footage revealed that the motorcycle (RJ04 SX 7199) was stolen from the police station premises sometime between April 19 and April 23, 2026.
Kotwali SHO Manoj Kumar said that a case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused based on CCTV footage. The bike is expected to be recovered soon.
