Shekhawat files nomination twice for right ‘mahurat’

Jodhpur: Vacillating between ‘shubh mahurat’ and company of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat filed his nomination twice on Saturday.Shekhawat submitted his nomination papers to the district election officer (DEO) first at about 12.15 pm, when he was accompanied by cabinet minister Jogaram Patel and Jodhpur City MLA Atul Bhansali, and his daughter.Later he reached the office of the DEO with a huge rally of supporters along with CM Sharma by his side, and filed his nomination papers again.According to advocate Nathu Singh Rathore, the plan was to file the nomination in presence of the CM but since he had not reached till then one nomination was filed inorder not to miss the auspicious time.“We had to file four sets of nomination papers. So the first one was filed as per the scheduled auspicious time and the remaining 3 sets were filed later at 3.00 pm in presence of chief minister Sharma," said Rathore.During the first set of nominations, the personal assistant of Shekhawat was also seen requesting the media not to run the news about filing of the nomination papers and wait till 2.00 pm.Shekhawat and Sharma with other leaders reached district collectorate along with supporters barely before the deadline ended for the nomination.Party sources said Shekhawat wanted to keep the news of filing the first set of nominations a secret so that the show he wanted to put up in the form of a massive rally does not fade.“Had the news of his filing nomination spread, the huge crowd of supporters might have lost interest and would not have accompanied him in the rally to file the nomination," he said.Several Congressmen from Jalore, including Sombhai Sargara, national president of Sargara Samaj, and Shravan Singh Rathore, president of Pravasi Rajasthani Friends Foundation, joined BJP during Shekhawat’s nomination rally.
