3 workers killed in Pali dist after100-tonne rock collapses in mine

Jodhpur/Jaipur: Three mine workers died, while three others were injured when an approximately 100-tonne granite rock collapsed and fell on them on Wednesday morning near Sakdada village, Chanod, under Guda Endla police station area of the Pali district.
Workers in the vicinity claimed to have heard an explosion when the rock fell. Speaking to the media, one of the workers, Suresh Choudhary, said, “There was a huge explosion at the time of the incident. It felt as if a bomb had exploded. After this, we ran to the spot and saw that the workers were buried in the mine. Amid clouds of dust, people started running everywhere. Meanwhile, the police were informed and the rescue operation began.”
The bodies of three labourers, which remained buried under the rock for one-and-a-half hours, were completely crushed. Three others who were at the site also sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital. The labourers have been working in the mine for the last 15 days. After receiving information about the incident, Pali DIG Om Prakash and SP Chuna Ram Jat reached the spot.
“The workers were breaking stones in the granite mine. Stone cutting and other work were also going on using drill machines. From the vibrations of drill machines, the 100-tonne rock collapsed. Mahavir (20), Hemraj (22), and Mohan (21) died after they were buried under the rock. Critically injured Shanti Lal (25) has been referred to Jodhpur. Shravan (24) and Ishwar (24) suffered minor injuries and received first aid,” a police official said.
A team from the directorate of mine safety in Ajmer also reached Pali to investigate the accident. According to director's representative Shubham Gaur, the mine was being operated by M/s Panna Mishri Granite.
