Kanpur shocker: Teen abducted while going to washroom, gang-raped by 2 youths; 2nd such case this month
KANPUR: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by two youths at a village in Kanpur's Bilhaur police station area on Monday night.
According to police, the incident occurred when the girl went to the washroom built outside her house and was grabbed by two youths from the village. The youths allegedly took her to a nearby house and raped her.
When the girl didn't come back, her family started looking for her. Around 3 am on Tuesday, she showed up at home, crying and clearly shaken, and told them what happened. The survivor's father has filed a complaint at the Bilhaur police station against the two youths.
The accused youths were missing from their homes, and some villagers stated that one of the accused was a minor.
After getting the complaint, the police station in-charge sent the victim for a medical check-up at CHC. The investigation's now on, and two teams are out looking for the accused. Police are working on the case.
Inspector Sudhir Kumar said that the case is being investigated. "Raids are underway to nab the accused," he said.
Earlier, a 14-year-old girl was abducted and raped, prompting administrative action against local police officials for their lack of responsiveness.
The incident occurred around 10 PM, when the girl, a resident of a Sachendi village, went out for a short errand.
She returned home around midnight in a distressed state, reporting that two men in a black car had forcibly taken her near the railway line and assaulted her. She informed her family that one of the perpetrators was a police officer.
The family initially approached the Bhimsen police out-post, but were reportedly turned away. They later went to the Sachendi police station, where an FIR was registered against unknown car occupants for abduction and rape.
Following the case, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal took strict action against the officers responsible. ACP Panki Shikhar Kumar was removed from his post for failing to show alertness and seriousness, while Bhimsen police out-post in-charge Bhimsen Dinesh Kumar was suspended for not reporting the incident and going on leave. ACP Panki’s duties were handed over to Manoj Kumar Singh.
The accused in the case include YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav, who is currently in custody, and sub-inspector Amit Maurya, against whom searches are ongoing.
Following public outcry and scrutiny of the handling of the case, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal took strict action against officers for their lack of seriousness. ACP Panki Shikhar Kumar was removed from his post, while Bhimsen police out-post in-charge Bhimsen Dinesh Kumar was suspended for failing to report the incident and taking leave. ACP Panki’s responsibilities have been transferred to Manoj Kumar Singh.
Police authorities emphasized that the administrative changes aim to ensure accountability and prevent negligence in sensitive cases involving minors.
