Kanpur: A 32-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding dumber outside a petrol pump near the Hadaha village in Bidhnu, Kanpur on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, Ramnaresh, worked as a construction worker at the Ring Road construction plant near Ramaipur, and was returning home after completing his night duty.
He had stopped at the petrol pump to refuel his bike and was exiting fuel station when a speeding dumper coming from the direction of Ghatampur ran over him and fled.
After the incident, family members and a crowd of villagers reached the spot and blocked the highway.
The situation eased after police assured the crowd that the truck driver would be arrested and compensation would be provided.
Bidhnu police station in-charge, Tejbahadur Singh, said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and a case will be registered on the basis of the written complaint.
A search for the accused driver is underway, he added.
