Kanpur: Degrees and awards to as many as 312 UG students, 179 PG students and 28 PhD students were given away at the 18th convocation ceremony of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) University here on Thursday.
The ceremony began with awarding of degrees to the students who had completed their PhD course. A total of 25 students from agriculture and three from home science department got the PhD degrees. Later, students who had completed post-graduation and graduation were awarded degrees.
Degrees were awarded to a total of 519 students, of which 10 received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal. Seven other gold medals, 10 university silver medals and 10 university bronze medals were also awarded to meritorious students.
Among those who received the coveted Chancellor’s Gold medal for brilliant performance in academics, were Veer Vikram Singh of MSc (Entomology), Prashant Kumar of BTech (Agriculture engineering), Pushpendra Kumar of MSc (Home Science), Shah Alam Tomar of MBA (Agriculture Business) and Shibhan Raizada of BTech (Computer Science and Engineering) course to name a few.
Though Pragati Yadav, a BSc (Honours) Home Science student was the lone awardee in Chancellor's Gold Medal list from the girls side, the girls were successfull in bagging several other medals in different categories. Manisha Saini of MSc (Agriculture), Ranee Devi from MSc (Home Science), Anjali Maurya B.Sc (Honours) Home Science and Kumari Priya of BTech (Electrical and Communication Engineering) were among the girls.
When degrees and awards were given in Kailash Bhawan (auditorium), it was fully packed with students, teachers and guardians of the students.
As their names were called out and students walked towards the stage, the auditorium reverberated with clapping and wooing. The students looked confident while collecting their degrees and medals from Governor Ram Naik, Chancellor of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Dr Panjab Singh and VC of CSA University Sushil Solomon.
As soon the students left the auditorium, they tossed their customary hats in the air and jumped to celebrate the moment. These moments were also captured in cameras of those present. The graduates and postgraduates left no opportunity in clicking selfies with each other. Holding their degrees, making victory signs were some common picture pose.
Most of the students were delighted and were in joyous mood, but at the same time a feeling of sadness was also visible in their eyes as they have to now leave their friends and their prestigious alma mater. As most of them had spent around three to six years on the campus (depending upon their course) they were nostalgic at the same time.
Chancellor of universities Naik administered oath to all the degree recipients, appreciated their efforts and wished them good luck for future. ICRA Ex-DG Panjab Singh, who was the chief guest at the programme, delivered the convocation address. He laid emphasis on a distinct budget line for agricultural research. “As agricultural education is a state subject, it is essential that there should be an adequate and desirably distinct budget line for agricultural research and education at state level,” he said.
