₹9L fine on vendors flouting FSA norms

Kanpur: The prescribed authority/additional district magistrate (city) disposed of as many as 14 cases under Food Security and Standard Act and imposed fine to the tune of Rs 9.10 lakh against the food vendors.
The presiding officer in his order also directed to realize the fine as revenue recovery if the accused failed to pay the fine amount.
According to assistant commissioner (II) food security and Drug administration, Vijay Pratap Singh, the highest fine of Rs 1.5 lakh was imposed on M/S Kishori Traders K block and supplier firm Kanpur Edibles Pvt Ltd Civil Lines for marketing substandard refined palmoline oil. In another case against M/S Nawabs Restaurant, Arya Nagar, a fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed after sample of cheese collected from the hotel was found substandard.
M/s Bala ji Misthan Bhandar Kamla Tower, Ram Kishore Bhojanalaya Collectorganj and Ankit Sweets FaithfulGanj were fined Rs 1 lakh each after samples of mawa, cheese and sweets failed and found substandard.
Singh said sample of Kiran-Farmer Soya Refined oil collected from Shyam Edibles Oils, Barra, was found misbranded and a fine of Rs 50,000 was slapped on them.
In other cases, milk and milk products were found substandard and the vendors were fined from Rs 30,000 to 50,000. In one case, raisin sample collected from My Shop in Shyam Nagar was found substandard and misbranded. The authority imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 against the vendor.
