GST team raids biz establishments of former BSP leader

Kanpur: After Kanpur and Kannauj, a GST team on Wednesday raided the business establishments of a cold storage and flour mill in Farrukhabad district belonging to former BSP leader Tariq Ahmed.

The raid was conducted by the GST team led by joint commissioner Hari Lal Prajapati, special investigation branch of the GST department, Etawah.

As per GST officials, during initial findings when they started checking the documents in a flour mill unit, it came to fore that even after an increase in the turnover, the taxes have not been paid.

Joint commissioner of special investigation branch of GST department Harilal Prajapati while talking to mediapersons said that during preliminary investigation, the team detected a case of tax evasion.

He said the investigation is also going at the head office of Tariq Ahmed’s firm in Mumbai where several documents are yet to be found.

“The team after finding the stock and sales register will do their physical verification”, Prajapati said.

According to sources, Tariq is the owner of four cold storages. Tariq is basically a resident of village Isapur in Kamalganj area but at present he lives in Fatehgarh.

He had contested the UP Assembly election on a BSP ticket from Kamalganj constituency (now Bhojpur Assembly constituency).
