Heartbreak in UP: Youth falls to death from 100-foot mobile tower after ‘marry me’ ultimatum
KANPUR: A youth died after falling from a 100-foot-high mobile tower in Kannauj on Wednesday after he climbed it insisting on marriage with his girlfriend.
The incident took place in Purabhoj village under the Gursahaiganj police station area. The youth sat on the tower for about two hours, shouting a girl’s name and saying, marry me off to her, otherwise I will jump and die.
Villagers gathered after hearing the commotion, and the youth’s family members also arrived. Police reached the village after being informed and also tried to persuade him to come down, but he demanded a promise of marriage, saying first decide about my marriage, only then will I come down.
While people were trying to convince him, he suddenly lost his balance, could not control himself and fell to the ground at 10 AM. He was rushed to hospital immediately but could not be saved.
Village head Krishna Kumar Rajput said, that we took the youth to the CHC but he died on the way. He also said that Sumit Kumar was declared dead by the doctor at Gursahaiganj CHC.
The youth was identified as Sumit Rajput (18), a resident of Purabhoj village, who worked in a factory in Rajasthan and had come home 15 days ago. It was reported that he was in one-sided love with a relative girl and the family was not agreeing to the marriage. The girl did not love him and had gotten married just three days ago.
Locals said police and family members were trying to convince him, but he was not agreeing quickly.
Sumit’s father died three years ago. His mother and a younger brother lived at home, while his sister got married five years ago. The younger brother was mentally weak, and Sumit was the sole earner in the house.
SP office issued a communique on handle X that information was received about a youth climbing a tower in village Purabhoj under Gursahaiganj police station area. On receiving the information, Gursahaiganj police station and UP 112 police reached the spot.
The youth fell down after losing his balance, Gursahayganj police station sent the youth to CHC Gursahaiganj for treatment where he died during treatment. The deceased's body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem after completing panchaynama proceedings, legal action is being taken.
