Kanpur: Kanpur Nagar defeated Jhansi by 11-0 in a lop-sided final match of zonal handball championship held here on Sunday.
Five districts of the zone--Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Jhansi, Etawah, Kannauj and Farrukhabad--participated in the league-cum-knock out tournament. Jhansi in the first semi-final drubbed Etawah in the tie breaker. Earlier, both the teams were equal on points in the stipulated time. Kanpur Nagar outplayed Kanpur Dehat in the second semi-final by 6-2.
In the morning, joint secretary of UP Handball Association Rajat Dixit inaugurated the championship.
After the finals, chief guest Nitya Chawla, Rotarian, Ajay Shankar Dixit, chairman, Rotary Sports Promotion Committee, Divya Dubey gave away prizes to the winners and the runner up teams.
According to Ajay Shankar Dixit, the winners and runner up teams will participate in the inter- zonal championship to be held from September 10. tnn
