Saras Mela honours self-help women groups at livelihood fair
Kanpur: Representatives of self-help women groups were felicitated at the Saras livelihood fair, which was open to the public on Sunday noon.The fair had 60 stalls where self-help women groups displayed their products. Beauty and perfume products, traditional clothing, handicrafts, household items, Sakhi leather products, organic plants and health care products, agriculture products, sanitation redressal, Saras taste and health facility products manufactured by the self-help groups were displayed in the fair.
The self-help women groups felicitated were Seema Devi (Jamdani saree & suit manufacturing), Ritu (spice production, Maa Durga women self-help group), Sangeeta Singh (Millet produce self-help group), Akansha Rajia (Boutique & garment production Kiran self- help group) and Mansi (domestic decorative products self-help group).Chief guest Satish Mahana, Speaker UP legislative assembly inaugurated the fair. Speakit on the occasion he said that harmony was at the core of Indian culture. Events like these, help preserve cultural heritage, including traditional food, handicrafts, and everyday necessities. ´ Self-confidence and a desire to create their own identity are visible among women of the self-help group" he added.Minister in-charge Yogendra Upadhyay said that the mantra of "adopting indigenous products" is the foundation of a developed India. The goal of a self-reliant India can only be achieved by promoting local products.District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said that on the instructions of the state government, all necessary facilities had been provided to women in the fair. Chief Development Officer Deeksha Jain said that through such events, rural women get direct markets and they are becoming economically self-reliant.Home decorative products of Meera Devi of Mansi Group of Kanpur Dehat and spices of Sudha Devi of Vaishnavi Group also made their mark in the fair. The rose water and perfumed products presented by Taravati of Gaurishankar Group of Kannauj and the flower lamps of Radhika of Parvati Group received awards and these stalls were continuously witnessing crowds. Beauty and perfume products of Reema of Vikas Group of Auraiya and Amla products of Menka of Ganga Devi Group were also in great demand. Phenyl-handwash of Manju of Janhit Group of Farrukhabad and saree-suit and dupatta of Alka Pal of Jai Bhole Group were also included in the award winning products.
