KANPUR: In the Sachendi gang-rape case involving the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl, action was taken against ACP Panki Shikhar Kumar and Bhimsen Police out-post in-charge Bhimsen Dinesh Kumar for not showing seriousness and alertness.
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal removed the ACP on Friday night, while the chowki in-charge was suspended. ACP’s charge was given to Manoj Kumar Singh.
The accused in the incident, YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav, was in jail, and raids were being conducted to search for accused sub-inspector Amit Maurya.
The 14-year-old girl, a resident of a village in Sachendi, went a short distance from home for some work on Monday night around 10 PM, police said. She returned in a distressed state around 12 midnight and told family members that two men in a black car pulled her inside on the way. She said they took her near the railway line and raped her.
Family members took her to Bhimsen Plice out-post, but they were turned away from there. The girl informed them that one of the accused was a policeman. The family then went to Sachendi police station, where an FIR was registered against unknown car occupants for abduction and rape.
