and the Nair Service Society (NSS) on Wednesday criticized CPM central committee member

AK Balan

's comments made in favour of entrusting the PSC with the appointments to the aided

educational establishments

in the state.

The chairman of the KCBC Education Commission bishop Joshua Mar Ignathios said in a statement that Balan's comments were immature and irresponsible. The commission welcomes transparency in appointments, but it was not appropriate for those in responsible positions to insult aided establishments instead of hailing their contributions to the public and the higher education sector, he said.

Speaking to TOI, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair strongly objected to Balan's remarks and accused the government of having a hidden agenda. "NSS will never agree to such a proposal and will take stringent legal action against it," he said.

The right to make appointments was not given to the managements as a favour, said the KCBC commission statement. KCBC welcomes corrective actions if mistakes are made.

Public affairs commission of the Syro-Malabar Church echoed the concerns raised by KCBC and said that it was not a hopeful development that politicians are behaving without any knowledge of history or law.
