: A 31-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old suffered serious injuries when a speeding mini-truck lost control and rammed two bikes at Manjummal on Saturday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Abhilash K B, a resident of Cherai, and the injured is Deepak V D of North Paravur. Deepak was admitted to Aster Medicity Hospital and is in a critical condition with multiple injuries.

According to Elamakkara police, the accident occurred on Kunnumpuram overbridge near Manjummal Junction around 1.45pm. The rashly driven truck, which was heading towards North Paravur direction, rammed the bikes while overtaking a vehicle on the bridge in violation of lane traffic rules. After ramming the bikes, the truck hit an autorickshaw before coming to a halt. The auto driver escaped with minor injuries.

Owing to the impact of the collision, both bikes went under the truck. Deepak and Abhilash were taken to nearby hospitals and the latter was declared brought dead.

Though the truck driver Santhosh, 38, a resident of Irinjalakkuda, fled the scene after the accident, police later nabbed him. He also suffered minor injuries and sought treatment. A case has been registered under section 304 of IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
