Marco denied TV screening due to extreme violence
KOCHI: Malayalam megahit movie Marco will not be screened on television as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has denied it satellite rights due to its portrayal of extreme violence.
It is also learned that the CBFC regional office in Thiruvananthapuram has contacted the CBFC headquarters to intervene and prevent the movie's screening on OTT platforms. The movie, starring Unni Mukundan and directed by Haneef Adeni, was released in theatres on Dec 20 last year. Apart from Malayalam, it was also released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. After a successful theatrical run, it was released on an OTT platform on Feb 14.
The movie faced strong criticism from various corners, including prominent political leaders in Kerala. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and senior Congress leaders slammed the movie for its violent content. Meanwhile, the movie's producer Shareef Muhammed told the media on Wednesday that he would no longer produce movies like Marco.
