KOCHI: With National Testing Agency declaring the results for NEET 2020 – which was conducted amid strict Covid-19 protocols – on Friday, the candidates from Kerala performed better, compared to last year. Unlike previous years, the top two
ranks
in Kerala were secured by girls. There were only four students from the state in the top 50 ranks in India.
Aysha S, Koyilandy in Kozhikode – who secured an All-India Rank (AIR) 12 – became the state topper with 710 marks. Lulu A, native of Nemmara in Palakkad, came next here with AIR 22 and 706 marks in her second attempt. The third and fourth ranks in state were secured by Sanish Ahammed of Vellimadukunnu in Kozhikode (AIR 25 & 705 marks) and Philemon Kuriakose of Pathanamthitta (AIR 50 & 705 marks). Sanish is the only Keralite among the top 20 male toppers in India.
Arpitha Mohan – with AIR 38,173 and 566 marks – became the state topper in person with disability (PwD)-female category. Arpitha is the only Keralite in top 10 female rankers in
Pwd
category.
Aysha is the daughter of AP Abdul Razak, an expatriate, and Shameena AP, a housewife. Last year she secured a rank beyond 15,000. “I was confident about the exam but never thought of becoming the state topper. The preparation was tough and I studied for more than 15 hours each day. My dream is to study at Delhi AIIMS and I hope I will get through this time,” she said.
Lulu was placed 448th in the all-India rank list last time. “I started my preparations in the repeat attempt by concentrating on Physics in the first phase and focusing on Biology in the last phase,” she said.
