KOTTAYAM: Two men died of
asphyxiation
inside a well on the premises of a hotel in
Changanassery
on Tuesday. Joby Mathew, 38, of Thengana and Vijay Orone, 29, of Banarhat in West Bengal, were the victims.
The mishap occurred around 12 noon on the premises of a hotel near Vazhoor bus stand. It was Joby, who first entered the well, to repair a motor. Vijay too went inside when he saw Joby struggling to breathe inside the well. The hotel authorities soon informed the fire force in Changanassery. Local residents and fire force personnel rescued them and rushed them to hospital. However, their lives could not be saved. Two fire and rescue services personnel, who went inside the well, were also admitted in hospital.
Joby was working as a staff in a private bus. Vijay was the staff of the hotel.
The bodies will be released to the relatives after autopsy on Wednesday.
