KOLHAPUR: A nine-year-old boy was injured in a leopard attack on Thursday night at Ukhalu village of Shahuwadi tehsil in Kolhapur.

The boy, Shreyas Prakash Vadam, is admitted to a private hospital in Karad. Raju Vadam, relative of the injured boy and a resident of the village, said, “The boy had gone to the toilet located behind their house. While the boy was removing water from a drum, the big cat pounced on him from behind. Shreyas has sustained injuries to his head and claw marks can be seen all over his body. Hearing the boy’s call for help we to the spot and the leopard ran away. Shreyas was taken to a primary health centre at Arala village, but as he was bleeding profusely the doctors referred him to a private hospital in Karad.”

He added, “There are around 6 leopards in Ukhalu, Bhisewadi and Ambaipada village area. Attacks on cattle and dogs are common here due to which the count of dogs has seen a downfall. But with attacks on humans there is an atmosphere of fear in the village. We are worried to come out of our homes at night.”
