KOLHAPUR: River water of Panchganga has fallen out of its water holding capacity at Panchganga ghat and currently flowing at 31.4 feet height where warning level is at 39 feet and danger level at 43 feets. Due to the incessant rains discharge from the Radhanagari dam has been increased to 1,200 cusecs and 29 barrages in the district have got submerged under the swollen river waters.

IMD has given a Red Alert for Kolhapur district till Thursday, July 8, and as the situation is expected to worsen further, two teams of NDRF have been stationed in Kolhapur- one in city and another at Shirol.

On Wednesday morning, the team of NDRF carried an inspection of the water level of Panchganga from Shivaji bridge.



Brijesh Kumar Raikwar, NDRF Inspector said, "The situation is stable in Kolhapur and the Panchganga river is still flowing below its warning level. Last year also we had carried rescue and relief operation here. IMD has given Red Alert and if the water level rises towards its warning level then we are well equipped to carry rescue and relief operation in the flood prone areas. Our two teams having 25 members each are currently deployed in Kolhapur".

As per district disaster management officials, Kolhapur district received 45.1mm rainfall in the last 24 hours recorded till Wednesday morning 8am in which Gagan-Bawda region received the highest 134.9mm rainfall in the district, while Shirol region received the least 14.2mm in district.
