Man beheads uncle over property dispute

KOLHAPUR: A long-running property dispute between a 65-year-old farmer and his 30-year-old nephew culminated with the brutal murder and decapitation of the older man in a Solapur village on Monday.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Shankar Jadhav. The incident took place in Mhada tehsil's Shevare village. The nephew, a tractor driver, who went around the village carrying his uncle's decapitated head, eventually surrendered before the police.

Shankar got in an verbal argument with his nephew, Shivaji Jadhav, on Monday morning over share in their ancestral farm property.

Girish Jog, the assistant inspector of the Tembhurni police station, where the case has been registered against Shivaji and three others, said: "We have arrested two men, including the key accused. The Madha court has awarded them police custody till December 18. As per the preliminary investigation, the murder was carried out using an axe. We have recovered the decapitated head thrown in a field. The remaining two accused are absconding."
