This foaming waterfall descends from a height of around 150 feet, unobstructed. For those in the mood to soak into the real experience, a visit to the waterfall is a must.

Go the extra mile

Covering the 43-km distance from the city towards Anuskura ghat valley route via Kale village till Karanjfen will put you on the route to the remote Barki village.

The main Barki waterfall is located deep inside the forest and trekkers will have to hike down the 4-km distance for around a half hour.

, a tourist at Barki, said, “The trekking is worth the experience as one has to travel navigate the dense wood and wind our way through the slippery, narrow and muddy surface downhill. You will witness some of the most amazing landscapes all around. The thrill of the trek is sure to bring you goose bumps.”

About the falls

This waterfall is a seasonal occurrence in the monsoon season. Located in the

Kolhapur

district’s Shahuwadi tehsil, tourists throng the site converging from Kolhapur, Sangli, Pune and Sindhudurg.

Local lore has it that there are five waterfalls in the area, of which only two are explored and three remain inaccessible.

A Barki villager,

Ananda Patil

says, “The high flow of visitors and the grampanchayat benefits from the footfall. It is a mesmerizing experience to stand near the falls. If people follow the rules of nature and maintain discipline, this place can be experienced to the fullest.”

From Barki, one could also visit the scenic Anuskura ghat set at a distance of a mere 67km and get to see the paddy cultivation in the farmlands there.

Located in the thick forestland, a hike to the Barki waterfall offers a plethora of sights for wildlife lovers. Rare species of frogs, caterpillars, butterflies, snakes and other creepers can be easily spotted, along with several plant species. Beware of leaches though, as they are found aplenty here.
