Traffic diversion for Kolhapur airport work

Kolhapur: The cable-laying and ground-levelling works on the stretch from the Kolhapur airport’s entrance to the main terminal building started on Saturday, prompting diversion of vehicles coming to the facility.
Motorists can now enter the facility from the new car parking area to access the old terminal building till further notice from the authorities.
Kolhapur airport director Anil Shinde said: “Development and expansion works on the terminal building at the Kolhapur airport are in progress. Earlier, the airport building was accessed through the main entrance of the building.”
“However, from Saturday onwards, vehicles are not being allowed to enter through the main entrance,” he added.
Four-wheelers will be able to access the main building from the new parking lot. The same route is to be taken until the terminal building is put into service.
An 11KV cable will be laid from the new car parking area to the terminal building of the Kolhapur airport.
Since excavation will be done from the compound boundary of the airport, normal traffic needs to be diverted in order to proceed with the construction.
The expansion works are going on in full swing and by the end of September, the work on the new terminal building will be completed” added Shinde.
