Saying that sharing of Teesta waters was an international issue, he hoped PMs Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi would discuss it when they meet in Delhi in the first week of October.

Mahmud added that Teesta waters would boost development in both countries and expressed optimism ab-out Hasina’s visit helping increase people-to-people contact between the two nations.

Asked about National Register of Citizens, he said it was India’s internal matter.

Earlier, Mahmud attended a seminar on the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War organized by Press Club Kolkata. War correspondents Manas Ghosh, Sukharanjan Dasgupta, Partha Chattopadhyay, Dilip Chakraborty, Tarun Ganguly and Upen Tarafdar recalled how they risked their lives while reporting on the war.
