Cargo ship refloats at first flood tide

Kolkata: The cargo vessel, MTT Singapore, refloated on its own with the first flood tide on Wednesday night and was brought back to Kidderpore’s Netaji Subhas Dock on Thursday. The vessel from Malaysia ran aground near Howrah’s Garchumuk on Wednesday due to steering failure, officials of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), formerly called KoPT, said.
“MTT Singapore re-floated on its own . It was anchored overnight at Phalta,” SMP spokesperson Sanjay Mukherjee said. The incident has been referred to director-general, shipping, and principal officer mercantile, marine department. “SMP pilot Nihar Ranjan Roy, on behest of Capt Avijit Ghosh, director, marine department, helped bring the ship to its destination. Chairman Rathendra Raman congratulated the team,” Mukherjee said.
